Salman Nawati is a visual artist, art educator, and cultural organizer based in Sweden. Active as an artist since 2009, he has built a practice spanning more than fifteen years across visual arts, education, and cultural leadership.

His career began in Gaza, where he held his first solo exhibition, Port, in 2009, and went on to develop a multifaceted practice spanning painting, drawing, installation, photography, film, theatre, and music. His work reflects on conflict — whether an individual’s internal struggle or the broader social and environmental challenges facing the world — through concepts of identity, memory, and resilience. Over the years he taught at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Al-Aqsa University, directed arts programs at the A.M. Qattan Foundation, and served as artistic director of several festivals in Gaza.

A residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris marked a new chapter: there, with the HAWAF collective, he co-founded the imaginary Sahab Museum — a virtual museum preserving and reimagining Gaza’s art and cultural heritage. He is also a co-founder of the Dahaleez collective.

Since relocating to Sweden in 2022, he teaches art and crafts at Grebbestads folkhögskola on the Swedish west coast and serves as an Assembly Member of the international cultural program inCONTEXT. He is a co-founder of Hassala, a lifeline initiative supporting Gaza’s artists, and is active in the Swedish art scene as a member of Konstnärscentrum Väst, KKV Bohuslän, and Scenkonst Gerlesborg.

His work has been presented at the Palais de Tokyo and the Institut du monde arabe in Paris, the Mosaic Rooms in London, the Sharjah Architecture Triennial, the École supérieure d’art d’Aix-en-Provence, the A.M. Qattan Foundation in Ramallah, and the French Cultural Centres in Gaza, Ramallah, and Jerusalem, among others. In 2026 he was in residency at the Camargo Foundation in Cassis, France, and presented work at the Gaîté Lyrique in Paris.
